Professor Cabrera's experiment will fly weightless

02/07/ 2013

Professor Cabrera’s experiment, "On the Performance of a Nanocatalyst-based Direct Ammonia Alkaline Fuel Cell (DAAFC) under Microgravity Conditions for Water Reclamation and Energy Applications”, has been selected as one of the nine payloads which will experience brief periods of weightlessness by flying on parabolic aircraft flights.

In 2013 and 2014, totally 13 payloads were selected for flights on commercial reusable launch vehicles, balloons and a commercial parabolic aircraft, among which nine will be fly on parabolic aircrafts.

According to the news just released by NASA, “The flights will allow participants to demonstrate their technologies to the edge of space and back, before committing them to the harsh and unforgiving conditions of spaceflight.”

Dr. Eduardo Nicolao and Carlos Poventud, the graduate student in Professor Cabrera’s group, have been involved in this project.
