Prof. Katiyar has been leading an Advanced Materials Research Laboratory, also known as SPECLAB, for investigations in the area of nano-structured materials and thin films for energy, memory, and sensor applications at the University of Puerto Rico, San Juan. He ingeniously exploited Raman spectroscopy and other characterization tools to understand size:structure: property relationships in various ferroelectric, multiferroic, semiconductor, and rechargeable Li ion and Li-S battery materials. His immense contributions in these fields are represented by his excellent publication record (over 1300 publications with more than 35000 citations) in the internationally recognized journals Prof. Katiyar graduated from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, with a Ph.D. in physics in 1968. From 1971 to date, he has served as a faculty member at several universities, including the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, 1971-73), University of Campinas (1973-85) and currently working as a professor of Physics at the University of Puerto Rico, San Juan. He has supervised more than 50 doctoral and 15 MS students. Dr. Katiyar received the title of "Fellow" of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) in 2018, for his outstanding contributions to the sciences and arts of ceramics. He was also honored as a Fellow by the American Physical Society (APS) in 2008, Fellow of the Materials Research Society (MRS) in 2013, and a Fellow of Electrochemical Society (ECS) in 2016 for his contributions to the advancement of materials research. He was awarded the Silver Jubilee International Medal of 2024 awarded by the Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) in recognition of his diverse and outstanding contributions to scientific research in general and the advancement of materials science in particular during his illustrious career.
