Research
Nicolau’s Laboratory is dedicated to the study of Analytical Chemistry towards the fundamental understanding of the interplay between nanomaterials and biomacromolecules for applications in environmental (water purification, sensing and remediation) and biomedical devices. Analytical tools employed include: liquid separation techniques (HPLC, SPE), mass spectrometric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC-ITC), rheological measurements, microscopy (AFM, SEM, TEM), Zeta potential and other spectroscopic techniques. Students from Nicolau’s laboratory are expected to engage at the cross field between chemistry, environmental sciences and biology with emphasis in quantitative assessment of proposed systems.
