The Caribbean Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) with the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will present a Science Café with the title Bones,Teeth and Chemistry: Toward the Reconstruction of Our Past on Friday, September 30 at 7:00 pm at the Ricomini Bakery located at 101 East Calle Méndez Vigo in Mayagüez.

The Science Café is an initiative to provide a dialogue about a scientific topic between the scientist(s) that do the presentation and the general public. The Science Café Bones, Teeth and Chemistry: Toward the Reconstruction of Our Past will present how bioarchaeologists have been able to learn about funeral customs, their physical characteristics and the illnesses suffered by the ancient inhabitants of the island of Borinquén.

This Science Café will have the participation of the forensic anthropologist and bioarchaeologist, Dr. Edwin Crespo, Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Bioarchaeology, Archaeological Research Center of the Rio Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico.

This activity is the sixth Café Science of this year when we celebrate the International Year of Chemistry and Puerto Rico was the host of the World Chemistry Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, a congress organized by the Colegio de Químicos of Puerto Rico. The event is free and open to the public.
