Short Bio
My name is Norangelik Quiles Soto. I am from Lares, Puerto Rico. My mayor is in coastal marine biology, I graduated from University of Puerto Rico, Humacao Campus. We are characterizing bacteria from honey bee brood caps using a high-throughput plate reader (Tecan Infinite 200 Pro). We optimize bacterial growth conditions by controlling temperature, shaking, and OD measurements. Additionally, we use a DIY imaging system to analyze colony morphology.

Project Title:
Characterization of growth curves of bacteria isolated from brood caps of the Puerto Rico Honey Bee
Project Description:
Honey bee colonies rely on beneficial bacterial communities for brain maturation and behavior regulation. Our study focuses on characterizing probiotic bacteria from brood caps to establish a bacterial library that can aid in honey bee health and resilience. We are analyzing these bacteria at genetic, metabolic, morphological, and physiological levels.
