Short Bio
I am Nathalie Torres Serrano, and I am from Arecibo, Puerto Rico. I graduated from Inter American University of Puerto Rico at the Metropolitan Campus with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in Pre-Med. I am working with Dr. Esther Peterson’s Lab under the Research and Mentoring for a Postbaccalaureate in Biological Sciences (RaMP-UP). The research is focused on the triple negative IBC subtype, characterized by the absence of estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), and HER2 receptor amplification. The cell line SUM149 exhibited high expression levels of Basonuclin-1 (BNC-1), and we want to identify BNC-1’s DNA binding preferences to untimely understand its potential role in IBC.
A fun fact or hobby: I am a poet and love to go to recitals, and I am an adventurer. So, I do hiking, kayaking, and I wish to go on zip lines. I love to snorkel and collect seashells.

Project Title:
The transcription factor basonuclein-1, a new player in the progression of triple-negative inflammatory breast cancer
Project Description:
Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is the most lethal form of breast cancer, with a high risk of metastasis and intra-lymphatic invasion by tumor cell emboli. The study aims to identify BNC-1’s DNA binding preferences to better understand its potential role in IBC.
