Our Program began offering courses in distance education format the summer of 2013, stimulated by a grant received from the USDA. In December 2015, our campus approved guidelines and norms for distance education to further expand student opportunities for varied course modalities. Course offerings are based on sufficiency of student demand. The university uses Moodle as the preferred electronic platform (beginning August 2016), although courses may be taught with other course management systems. Courses that have been developed for distance education include:

Course CodeCourse Name
NUTR 4075Administration of Foodservice Systems
NUTR 4165Clinical Dietetics
NUTR 4169Applied Clinical Dietetics
NUTR 4198Research Methods in Nutrition

NUTR 4502Integrative Nutrition II: Administration of Foodservice Systems

Please note that just because the course is on the list above does not mean it will automatically be offered through a distance education modality.

Course availability and the modality in which it will be offered (classroom, hybrid, on-line) will be announced during the course selection-registration process each semester, and will also be clearly stated in the syllabus. Additional courses may become available in the distance education format during the program’s continual curriculum revision process.

The norms and procedures for implementation of the distance education policies for the Río Piedras campus are detailed at the following link in Certif. No. 49 of the Academic Senate, 2015-2016:
