To become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), the Commission on Dietetic Registration outlines the steps required for exam eligibility. As of January 1, 2024, a master’s degree will be required in addition to completing the supervised practice component from an ACEND-accredited program, which has always been a standard for entry-level dietitians. For detailed information on the different pathways to meet these requirements, visit the following link: AND – Become a RDN.
In Puerto Rico, local regulations require nutrition and dietetics professionals to obtain and maintain licensure. To qualify, current regulations mandate completing an undergraduate degree in nutrition and dietetics from an accredited institution, along with a supervised practice component from an ACEND-accredited program, or alternatively, a master’s degree in nutrition. After completing these steps, you are eligible to take the local licensure exam. Those who obtain the RDN credential may request an exemption from this exam.
