The Department of Biology through the effort of several of our colleagues has been successful at securing training grants that will be instrumental for the development of graduate and undergraduate students.

IDGene: Increasing Diversity in Genomics for the Next generation. This grant was put together by Dr. Dr. José E. García Arrarás and D. Humberto Ortiz (Computer Science) and submitted to NIH-National Human Genome Research Institute – R25 Genome research to attract talented undergraduates into the genomic field to enhance diversity.Total Intended Award amount: $1,700,000; Start Date: 09/09/2022 End Date: 08/30/2027.

RaMP: Research and Mentoring for Postbaccalaureates in Biological Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico. This proposal was written by Dr.Dr. José E. García Arrarás  and Dr. Juan Sebastián Lugo and submitted to NSF-DBI. Total Intended Award Amount: $2,516,239. Start Date: 08/15/2022 End Date: 05/31/2026

Developing Foundations for Nanopore DNA Sequencing Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences at Minority-Serving Institutions. This proposal was written by Dr.José Luis Agosto in collaboration with Mr. Jason Williams and submitted to NSF-DUE. Total Intended Award Amount: $50,000. Start Date: 06/15/2022 End Date: 05/31/2024.
