[accordion title=”Enrollment” load=”hide”]The Registrar’s Office prepares enrollment for the first semester of new students. However, for the following semesters it is the student who makes the enrollment. It is very important that you consult the Academic Calendar to know the dates in which you must complete the pre-enrollment and enrollment process. In MIUPI, all the necessary information is indicated to be able to carry out the process, as well as the dates on which the access to the Putty Tel, Telnet or Terra Term enrollment programs is opened. If you have doubts or questions, you can go to the Guidance Student Program or to the Student Affairs Office of the Faculty or in the Department to which you belong.[/accordion]

[accordion title=”Partial Withdrawals” load=”hide”]To request partial withdrawal the student must go through the Student Affairs Office of their faculty to process it. You must bring your student ID or a photo ID to complete the process. Once the form has been completed, the student is given a copy and it is the Student Affairs Office that is responsible for returning the original to the registrar.

The academic calendar of the semester must be verified to see the deadline for partial withdrawals.[/accordion]

Definitions
According to the Institutional Policy of the Academic Year 1996-1997, the special permission is an authorization granted to the active student in a unit of the University of Puerto Rico to take courses in another unit of the UPR System or accredited university institution with the purpose of transferring the authorized credits to their unit of origin.

All courses taken at UPR will receive the same treatment through the system and courses with the same coding will be equivalent, regardless of the unit in which they have been approved (Certification No. 115, 1996-97, of the Board of Trustees). The Board of Trustees reaffirmed this position in its Certification No. 51, 2000-01, stating that the units of the UPR constitute for all purposes, including the validation of courses, a university system, as established in Article 12 of the General Regulations of the UPR.

The College of Natural Sciences welcomes these definitions as theirs and in accordance with current policies has as objectives to grant the special permission the following:

  • Facilitate the student’s academic progress towards the degree, allowing them to take courses that at a certain moment are not available in their unit.
  • To deal with situations of a personal nature that require the student to temporarily relocate to another accredited unit or university.
  • Expand your educational options by allowing you to take courses offered by other units or educational institutions, either by individual initiative, or as a participant in exchange and internship programs.
  • Offer the student the opportunity to be exposed to other university environments and cultures.

Eligibility
Students of the College of Natural Sciences are eligible for special permission if they comply with the following:

  • You must have studied at least one semester in your unit of origin.
  • Prior authorization of the director of the department or program to which the student belongs is needed.
  • Have satisfactory academic progress **** SEE ACADEMIC PROGRESS STANDARD ****
  • Enroll in previously authorized courses. To allow flexibility, the originating unit may indicate in the document other alternative courses, as long as they do not exceed the maximum of authorized credits.
  • The student will not exceed 21 credits per semester/ quarter/ trimester.
  • The final approval of a special permission is subject to the availability of academic offer and space in the receiving unit or institution.
  • In exceptional cases, the Dean of Academic Affairs of the unit of origin may authorize special permits for students who do not fully comply with the above conditions.

Term
The special permission is authorized for a fixed period of time and can be extended by several terms but always with a view to returning to your home unit to continue with the balance of your studies. Authorizations may be issued to study in more than one institution concurrently, as long as the combined number of credits is within the rules of origin.

Procedure
The application forms will be supplied and processed by the Registrar’s Office of the originating unit. To be valid, the application must have the authorization of the Director of the Department to which the student belongs and the Dean of the Faculty or corresponding official in that unit.

  1. The student must request the Special Permission form in the Registrar’s Office within the deadline and verify that he has the minimum retention index to comply with the process.
  2. Each department must authorize the courses corresponding to validation or equivalence.
  3. All units of the UPR will make efforts to evaluate and respond to requests filed within the scheduled period within a reasonable period of time.
  4. In those cases in which the authorization is denied by a receiving unit of the UPR System, it must indicate to the student the reason for the denial within a reasonable period of time.
  5. When you have all the signatures, the student must go to the Revenue Office to pay.
  6. Then, take the special permission and the payment receipt to the Registrar’s Office, Annotation Section.[/accordion]

[accordion title=”Satisfactory Academic Progress” load=”hide”]Satisfactory academic progress is to meet the minimum academic index requirements established by the institution (2.00), approve a minimum percent of credits per year (50%); if you receive financial aid it is (70%). In addition, if you receive financial aid, you must be able to complete the degree within 150% of the total credits required by your academic program. Academic progress is measured annually.

Unsatisfactory Academic Progress means being in probationary status, whether or not the student has financial aid.
