{"id":294,"date":"2020-09-21T09:40:32","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T13:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/natsci.uprrp.edu\/envsci\/?page_id=294"},"modified":"2024-10-24T14:51:36","modified_gmt":"2024-10-24T18:51:36","slug":"facilities-and-equipment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/natsci.uprrp.edu\/envsci\/facilities-and-equipment\/","title":{"rendered":"Facilities and Equipment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Environmental Sciences Program has many teaching labs, including a GIS computer lab, a Geophysics Lab, a Tropical Ecology Land Use Lab, an Aquatic Ecology and Eco-toxicology Lab, and a Limnology Lab.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to facilities and equipment, the program has close ties and collaborations with local governmental agencies and groups such as the US Environmental Protection Agency, the US Geological Survey, the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, CAUCE (Centro de Acci\u00f3n Urbana, Comunitaria, y Empresarial of Rio Piedras, la Sociedad Eco-Ambiental, and our industry partner, Biol\u00ed\u00adpidos de Puerto Rico).<\/p>\n<p>Built in 1937 as a leader in tropical research and managed by the University of Puerto Rico, <span class=\"C9DxTc \"><a href=\"https:\/\/evfs.ites.upr.edu\/\">El Verde Field Station<\/a> became the principal site for research in the department. Currently, the<\/span><a class=\"XqQF9c\" href=\"http:\/\/envsci.uprrp.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span class=\"C9DxTc aw5Odc \">Environmental Sciences Department<\/span><\/a><span class=\"C9DxTc \">, <\/span><a class=\"XqQF9c\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uprrp.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"C9DxTc \">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"C9DxTc aw5Odc \">University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus<\/span><\/a><span class=\"C9DxTc \"> (UPR-RP), administers the station and surrounding research area under an agreement with<\/span><a class=\"XqQF9c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/main\/iitf\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span class=\"C9DxTc aw5Odc \">USDA Forest Service<\/span><\/a><span class=\"C9DxTc \">.
