It is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">certified<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by the American Chemical Society and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">accredited<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by the Middle States Association of Universities and Colleges.\u00a0 The department has a permanent teaching faculty of 20<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (in tenured or tenure-track positions), 18 of which are active researchers in the following areas: electrochemistry, organic synthesis, crystallography, photochemistry, biochemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, laser spectroscopy, marine natural products, energy storage \/ rechargeable batteries, theoretical chemistry and environmental analytical chemistry.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Accreditations<\/h4>\n<p>The Department of Chemistry is located in the College of Natural Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico, R\u00ed\u00ado Piedras Campus.
