It is a national society that welcomes the membership of people from all racial and ethnic groups. The mission of the MANRRS is to \u201cpromote academic and professional advancement by the empowerment of minorities in agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences\u201d. It also offers students the opportunity to \u201cenhance leadership and organizational and public speaking skills, and to experience the professional critique of scholarly work in a user friendly environment\u201d. The first ever virtual National Conference will take place on April 7-10, 2021. (The information regarding the application dates and specific instructions is forthcoming). It is responsible for the enforcement of the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act; the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act; and the Nutritional Labeling and Education Act among others. [accordion title=”University of Nebraska’s Minority Health Disparities Initiative Research Experience” load=”hide”]The University of Nebraska-Lincoln<\/a> offers the Minority Health Disparities Initiative Research Experience for Undergraduates. This program is supported by a Summer REU grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for research in using novel methods in order to study health disparities, focusing on understanding social context. Participating students will learn about the following: application of the relevant methods, such as social network analyses, community-engaged methodologies and social context assessment tools. Participants will be able to develop hypotheses and also learn how to design and conduct health disparities related research studies in order to employ these skills where possible in their summer research projects. Nutrition is among the related fields that should apply to this program.<\/p>\n

This program provides students with the opportunity for independent research projects focused in molecular biosciences such as the following: gene expression analyses; chromatin structure\/function; protein characterization and manipulation; cell molecular architecture; tumor virus molecular biology; molecular mechanisms of ion channels and neurotransmitter release; protein folding; structure and function; molecular neurobiology; developmental mechanisms; proteomics; detection of food-borne pathogens; plant molecular biology and metabolism; cardiovascular physiology and development; DNA repair and telomeres in cancer and aging; and prions in neurodegenerative diseases. Each undergraduate will be assigned to a specific faculty member\u2019s research laboratory, where the student has the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor, postdoctoral associates, as well as graduate students.<\/p>\n
