How It All Began: The Genesis of the 3E Program

The 3E program originates from an initiative financed by the National Science Foundation (NSF), which was worked on by a team of professionals from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. Recognizing the urgent need to train professionals in the field of environmental sciences, they develop the research proposal: Examine + Explore + Expand: Involving a New Generation in Environmental Sciences.

The 3E program (Examine + Explore + Expand) aims to prepare new environmental science professionals by providing them with theoretical and practical knowledge as well as analytical experiences. These resources will help them face and work with the challenges that occur in the environment and that are foreseen for the not-too-distant future of our planet. The program was designed in three stages. In each phase, participants are expected to increase their knowledge and improve and develop skills through practical challenges.
