History

The Nutrition and Dietetics Program at the University fo Puerto Rico is offered at the College of Natural Sciences, Rio Piedras Campus.

This Program is the only Nutrition program offered at the University of Puerto Rico. It was created in 1930. It consists of approximately four years of study to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Accreditation


The Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The Nutrition and Dietetics Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) from 2010-2020.

Program's Mission


Provide the academic preparation necessary to prepare nutrition professional qualified to offer quality services to a diverse clientele.

The Program focuses on developing professionals prepared to work in diverse specialty areas within the nutrition field. Integration of knowledge, skills and supervized practive experiences that will allow graduates to promote adequate nutrition and health and wellness to individuals acrooss the life span in a diverse society.

Program Goals

1. Prepare nutrition professionals to:

a. Work in various scenarios such as hospitals, food assistance programs, didactic settings, food industry and research projects.

b. Provide individuals from diverse edcational background, socioeconomic status and the culturally diverse, the education and nutritional care necessary to achieve and maintain health.

2. Prepare graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to complete the supervized practicum or a graduate program succesfully.

3. Provide field experiences and learning environment that stimulates the development of ethical conduct and leadership.
