Counseling and Guidance Program


The Counseling and Guidance Program of the College of Natural Sciences offers profesional counseling services and guidance. The mission of this Program is to facilitate students to maximize his/her abilities in order to achieve their personal and professional goals.

The Program offers counseling services in three areas: Personal, Academic, and Vocational/Occupational.

A. Personal

Assist students in developing skills for:

  • Adjusting to university life
  • Making decisions
  • Self - esteem
  • Interpersonal relations
  • Effective communication
  • Conflict management
  • Peer counseling
  • Crisis Intervention and referrals to other professionals

B. Academic Counseling

  • Academic Decision Making: Selection of graduate or undergraduate programs; selection of courses to satisfy particular needs and interests, students on academic probation;withdrawal of courses,etc.
  • Workshop Study Habits: Organization, anxiety management in relation to exams, time management and others
  • Orientation Activities for Various Groups: New students; transfers from other units of the UPR system, transfers for private institutions; readmissions and reclassification of students.
  • Orientation about the College of Natural Sciences for groups from other units of the UPR system and high schools
  • Orientation about summer internships, research, and exchange opportunities.

C. Vocation/Occupational

  • Occupation selection in accordance with personal abilities, values, and interests
  • Vocational/Occupational questionnaires and interests inventories
  • Occupation Database
  • Assistance with preparation for employment search

The program coordinates and processes:

  • Degree recommendation of the departments with the Register's Office
  • Convalidation of courses of Natural Sciences students.

Monday through Friday: 12:00 - 4:30 PM.
