Chair and Graduate Program Coordinator appointed to IUPAC committees.
The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Executive Committee approved October 31, 2015 in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, the final rosters for its Division Committees. Two of our chemistry faculty members were chosen to join several of these committees. Dr. Jorge Colón was named Associate Member of the Inorganic Chemistry Division (II), while Dr. Néstor M. Carballeira was named Associate Member of the Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry Division (III) and National Representative for the Chemistry and Human Health Division (VII). The initial appointment is for two years (2016-2017).
The members of these divisions initiate, fund, and manage projects, plan and organize scientific meetings, manage a budget for the divisions, and advise the Bureau on scientific matters. IUPAC is a non-governmental organization of member countries that encompass more than 85% of the world's chemical sciences and industries. IUPAC is best known for setting standards for names, symbols, and units in the chemical sciences.
