The results from the article entitled “In-plane dielectric and magnetoelectric studies of BiFeO3” published during last year in Phys. Status Solidi A, was the cover of the July 2012 edition of the same journal. Recently this work was selected to be part of 2013 edition of “Best of pss”
In this research four novel in-plane phase transitions of multiferroic BiFeO3 were established: The first is at 180 K and observed at very low frequencies (<1 kHz) with a sharp dielectric loss anomaly; the second is a relaxor-like phase transition (180 – 235 K); the third is a diffuse phase transition at 550 K. The fourth is the Polomska transition at 458 K. The new work with planar electrodes also permits measurement of reasonably good ME coefficients (~300 mV/Oe cm in transverse and 2V/Oe cm in longitudinal). Understanding of the in-plane phase transitions and ME behavior may be helpful to design nanoscale and interfacial devices with high surface to volume ratios.
