Nutrition and Dietetics Program gets award from USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture to develop Distance Education Courses

The grant submitted this past spring semester to develop innovative teaching strategies through distance education courses and a Virtual Nutrition Library was awarded and scheduled to begin the 1st of August 2011. The project is expected to be completed in three years and will accomplish the following objectives:

a) development of six distance education courses to improve teaching, broaden student experience and reduce time and costs for enrolled and prospective students b) development of assessment modules to accompany learning activities c) open source learning activities of benefit to other programs or institutions available via a Virtual Library accessed through the project webpage d) infrastructure to offer webinars and other distance education activities beyond those included in the course outline for campus-wide benefit.

The project Director is Dr. Elsa Pinto and co-Director Dr. Brenda Toro.
