$5 million awarded to Chemistry and Environmental Science for the creation of a Center for Renewable Energy at UPRRP!
The University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and the University of Georgia, Athens have partnered to form a DoD STEM Research Center of Excellence in Renewable Energy. The Center will focus on algae-based biofuels produced from harvested cells using thermochemical and anaerobic digestion processes and make use of the climate advantages Puerto Rico offers in growing algae, namely light intensity and marine location.
The project will provide funding for interested undergraduates and graduates to conduct research in the area of renewable energy. The project is expected to begin 1 June 2011. For more details contact Gary Gervais.
